ASHLEY, Our Big-Big -Loveable -Smart -Grey-Green-Eyed Pussy Cat, one of our children.............oxo

by Mark Lecuyer & Catherine
(Winnipeg,Manutoba, Canada)

Ashley, was a pussy cat that was big & special. She had a standoffish way, but you knew she loved you by her warm greetings the start or end of the day, or how she came around for attention when she wanted it, or just the meowing mixture of voice "Saying come on and feed me. I love playing Peek-A_Boo with her.

Just this past Saturday the 28th of May 2011, Ashley went to be with Max(our loveable dog). Thursday evening Ashley sounded late at night as if she had a cold. Friday morning Ashley was breathing funny, but meowing for breakfast, and meowing for her pats. We decided to take Ashley into the Vet. Going to the Vet, Ashley was calm in the car, relaxed in Mark's arms, wrapped in a big towel, she viewed her surroundings, and meowed as her usual self. Ashley, we were told had to have blood work, her chest sounded raspy, we kissed Ashley, as we thought she'd come back. After waiting a long time, we waited, were brought into a room, the Vet said Ashley was a pretty sick Pussy Cat. She said she'd run IV's with fluids and antibiotics, or we could have a Tube inserted in her chest to remove fluid. We knew the latter would be very traumatic, and were told Ashley may not make it, so we decided the IV's, we wanted to go back and see Ashley, tell her we would be back after the bloodwork & IV insertion, we were going to go with the Vet, but she shut the door, came back in and said there was an emergency, and we couldn't. We wanted to kiss Ashley. The Vet phoned later prior to her bed, Ashley was moving around, Alert, Meowing up a storm, but still breathing with some difficulty. We both were exstactic, we were going to bring Ashley home at noon Saturday.......The next morning the Vet said, they had run antibotics, and Ashley was doing great, peeing, they wanted to run some more antibotics, and take the catheter out before noon, when we went to get her............We were on our way, 10 minutes away to get our Ashley Pussy Cat.........The cell phone rang, it was the vet, she said Ashley had the cathetar removed, she was alive one monement, then suddenly in a split second she was gone.....I said Noooooooooooooooooooo, and passed the phone to Mark..................We got to the Vet after driving around and around, dreading to go and say our final good-bye to our Ashley, our great big Pussy Cat, there will be no other like her............Ashley, was wrapped in a blanket, her head poking out, she looked alive, she didn't look passed. In Mark's heart, and mine we know she waited with her soul & spirit for us to say good-bye............Ashley's spirit was still with her, after moments of holding her, kissing her on her big head & fat cheeks, it was as though she left, the clear eyes no more, her mouth opened slightly, and her warmth was replaced by coolness.......I didn't want to leave her, but I knew after the beautiful urn was picked by Mark, and my wishes of her wrapped in our home blanket, with our kleenex of tears, a toy, and kibbles for her journey be kept in her stretched out paws.... Now, we had to go home and tell her little sister Dinah that Ashley was gone. When we got home Dinah was laying on Ashley's mat near the food & water.............Dinah never did this, she knew, and saw we took her out the door, but never brought Ashley home.........This is Sunday, one day since Ashley is gone, a piece of the home is missing, Dianh lays on Ashley's mat with her head down, and paws crossed..............Dianh then jumps on me (Catherine), I ever so gently tell her, I know Dinah, I know Ashley is gone, and we miss her too. Dinah looks with those sad eyes, not big and bright as usual, but watery and squinting. I continously stroke her full back and say, I know, I understand to the eyes looking at me squinting and ears forward, listening to each word. The wonderful veternary hospital sent a pink rose bowl with a deepest sympathy card. This was very touching, but seeing Ashley's name just made us cry even more. I know she didn't want to leave, but she is with Max now. I may have only known Ashley 3 years, she filled a void in my heart, she wrapped her paws around my ankle, talked with me, accepted me in her family when I became engaged. Ashley will be missed so by me, I had never had such unconditional love from a big Pussy Cat named Ashley, we will miss her forever.
