Best friend ever!

We just lost our little Weiner dog after having him for 16 wonderful years. He was so sweet with those sad weiner dog eyes, he was our companion and best friend. Other than getting old, we believe he had cancer and the time came when he could no longer fight the age and the disease. He went downhill very fast, was blind and had dementia in the end but no matter what he did, we still loved him with all our heart. We miss him so much every day! We are so lonely without him here to greet us each day.
The way we found him: We thought we might like to get a lap dog years ago, I thought of a yorkie or the like and then a lady I worked with said a friend of her daughter had a weiner dog puppy and it needed a good home. Well, it was not what I thought I would get but went to see it anyway. When we got to the house, it was so cute 7 month old puppy, they had 3 kids and 2 big dogs so that poor little red/brown big eyed puppy was looking at us like "please take me out of here!" I knew when I saw this animal and heard the story of how the kids hated taking care of him, I told my spouse "load him up!" I could not leave that little sad face, as we were leaving they said "oh that will be 150.00!" What?? I thought it was going to be free to good home. Needless to say, I could not leave him and paid the man. As they say "There is no such thing as a free dog!"
We learned to love that little red weiner dog with all our heart. He was given the run of the house from day one, never got into anything or messed up the house even while we were at work.
He was such a joy in our life, I did not think I would feel this way about a pet (even though I lost my beloved cat when she was 16 year old)this is different, but now it is so hard to come home and not find him here waiting on us each day. We miss his sweet face and the love we shared with him. His name was Candy and he was our best friend!
