Grandma's gone.

by Tonya Marshall

My grandma Thomas was so special. She had basically been the third parent in my family. My father went over seas with his military and there were times that we lived with my grandparents off and on. On May 31, 2013 my grandmother passed away. She had been sick with dementia, but ultimately it was not what took her life. I never thought that the last time I was talking to my grandma would be the last time that I talked to her. My life has forever changed and I will never be the same. I do not know how to handle it. I do not know how to cope.

Grandma's gone

Tonya this is one of life's biggest heartaches and unbearable pain to lose a close loved one as significant as a mom/grandmother. The only way I coped with my loss was ONE DAY AT A TIME. It has been 2yrs. since I lost my husband and I feel worse today as the loss feels stronger. I miss him. Every day is the same. Reminded I will never see him again and this is the most painful aspect of loss.
It is painful but the only way forward is to sit tight and sit it out each day. If you do some good pampering for yourself each day it does build you up and allows you some healing that is comforting. We can do nothing to change things. We did nothing. This happened to us. and IT HURTS. Nothing worse than sitting with a loved one who is dying and there is nothing you can do or say to make things better. You just want to hold time in that frame and stretch it so the days last longer and you have more time to love, and just look at your loved one so you don't ever forget their face. This is what I did. I long for the years back. My children are going to have to go through this when they lose me and my heart breaks for them having to face a hard life of pain and difficulty. But we have to be brave and face life DAILY. Knowing that we have to go on in life and make the best of our situation and find the strength to survive.
