These stories make my hair raise!! My sister has been a heroine addict for the last 10 years. Today 22/11/2012 is her birthday, her phone is off, and when I called yesterday she was in a terrible state of high. She didnt even know what day it was. I fear that she will not wake up again. I fear that she will die! She is so highly intellegent and she has been in and out of rehabs for the last 10 years. The pain is unbearable to think that she might not be here tomorrow. Oh, please give us strength. We so need it. The crack houses are overflowing here in Krugersdorp South Africa, and the Nigerians have had this hold on her for a very long time. I fear for her life!! I am scared!! She is only 29 today.

Drug Addiction
by: Lindsey

Because I and most others have no experience in helping such an ill person, I would seek the help of a professional. I'm a nurse so I know a little, enough to know that unless a person wants to be helped, rehab. won't work. Trying to put myself in your shoes I ask, what would I do? I would call rehab facilities, and ask if you can discuss your sister and how you might get her to become interested in helping herself. They say its when a person hits rock bottom sometimes; a bad car wreck, the negligent death of her child, etc. The professional may give you other resources such as the location of a methadone clinic, that I believe would be part of a rehab program. They may have an inpatient program that takes her insurance, or that costs nothing, because donors may provide the money. If you don't get enough helpful information, call another facility. Don't give up on her, call every single substance abuse program until you find someone that can help you. She needs to move away from this monster that has a grip on her.

God bless you for having the love to care, and strength to help her. Tell her, "we will get through this, you will conquer this disease."

You could look up one of those drug addiction programs that help you stage an intervention and send them (her) to rehab. Contact these people on the Internet. We have one in the U.S. called "Intervention," but you couldn't let her know that you're looking into it. It has to be a surprise to her. They send a camera man/woman to film her for a documentary, but they don't tell her it's an intervention documentary as well. Watch an episode online to get a better idea of how they do this, then tell them you have an interesting case for them. They could go to Africa and film her to share the severity of the problem in her area. They would then offer her rehab in a very persuasive way. Send them a copy of this if you wish.
