Happy Birthday

by Steven
(Perth, Western Australia)

Happy Birthday to my darling wife
Another year goes by
For you the days no longer count
Your glass forever dry

So hard to mark this special day
To celebrate your birth
Without you here to be a part
And walk upon this Earth

The candles cast a mournful glow
No breath to blow them out
The cake uncut, no wish to make
No cheer for us to shout

Through all the tears and pain I feel
The thing I don't forget
Is all the joy and love you gave
From the very day we met

I wipe my eyes and dry my face
And raise my glass to you
I thank you for the time we had
And the love that saw us through

To my eternal soul mate
24-05-60 ~ 15-06-2012
Forever in my heart
I miss you so very much

Hello Steven.Such a beautiful poem.May is a bad month for me.Mother's day(mom gone June 2010)My love and I's anniversary-22nd,and 2nd anniversary of his death-29th.I miss him so much.I remember on the first anniversary after his death going to our favorite restaurant and asking the waiter to put a glass of tea(what he usually drank)on the other side of the table. So you see,I do those things too. This year I have asked my youngest son to go with me on the anniversary of his death(he is the one child we had together-we both had children from previous marriages)so I wouldn't be alone. It's still so hard sometimes.I am beginning to reach the acceptance stage sometimes.I still cry though not everyday.I will always miss him.Even if I should meet someone in the future,I will never love another as I love him.He was my soul mate.Continue to write poetry.I hope this will be a help to you as it has been for me. GOD send you strength and peace.I send you love and prayers.
