I Love you Mami

My mother took ill on 02/05/10 while on vacation in Puerto Rico with a rare disease called Gillian Barre Sydrome, GBS for short. This is not a life threatening disease. 98% of patients recover. I became her advocate, trying to get her out of the Island. It took 8 months to get her home to Florida. By that time so many months had gone by, we got home her home via air ambulance. She lasted 15 days.

She passed on 10/17/10 at 12:01 am. While I absolutely know I did everything I could for her, my heart is broken and I can't stop feeling this pain and sorrow. When will the healing start? Everything reminds me of her. I lost my mother, my best friend.

People around me expect me to get back to normal, but I don't know what normal is anymore. Everything seems to be so dark, there seems to be no light in my life anymore. I thank God because she no longer suffers, however I never knew the void she'd leave behind.

Still missing you
by: Marilyn

Mami, today makes 3 months since your departure. I miss as if you just left. I pray to God for help and guidance. To give me the strength to carry on without you. Give me the wisdom to know how to carry on all of your traditions and most of all to help me be the mother that you were to me. You are in my heart and not a day goes by that I don't think about you and wish you were here with me. I love you Mami. RIP.

There is no normal time frame

I agree with the previous post. You now have a new normal and it will take time to find exactly what that is for you. People that expect you to be better in 6 weeks as if it is a broken bone and not a broken heart.

Please go easy on yourself. Keep reading, keep writing and as you'll see. We all try to take it one step, one breath, one day at a time.

Do not let people tell you to get back to normal as your normal has changed. Let your self grieve at your pace there is no quick fix.
