If I Could Only

Dad if I could only tell you just how much you mean to me, I would tell you that I love you no matter how confused you seem to be.

If I could only tell you just how much it would mean to me, To hear your soothing voice just to comfort me.

If I could tell you what it would mean to me, to wrap my arms around you and kiss you on the cheek, and just to hear you say kid your unique.

If I could only tell you, I would say thank you for sharing my grief and would tell you Dad that I miss you and please don't leave.

This Alzheimer's that you have has stolen you away from me but dad I would tell you that I love you and it's okay to go and be free.

Dear Tosha, My father has had alzhiemers for the past 10 years. But once in awhile you get that little window of clarity. My father and I were so close when I was growing up, you could not have asked for a better father. Still say what you want to say to him because it does sometimes sink in and if for nothing else say what you need to for yourself. I recently lost my husband, and my father lives 3.5 hours away from me. But about 5 days later he asked my step mom. Am I right? Did Paul die? So it was in there. The way I had to look at it for myself is that I was so close to him that this in some ways will soften the blow when I do lose him. But I'm sure I will still be a wreck.God bless you and just take one day at a time.

You can say it to him anyway if he's still here. Don't let words go unspoken, for if he passes ,you'll wish you had even if you think he doesn't understand. You'll know you told him what you feel.
