I'm Home, My Beloved ( For my Husband after my US Sojourn )

by Sonia S. Sicat
(Zamboanga City, Phil.)

I've explored the world or what's half of it
Awed by its splendor and grandeur,
But the shores of home just call me back..
Because that's where I find the greenest pasture.

Home is where my heart is
Where overwhelming thoughts of you permeate,
Where I feel close to your warmth and presence..
That so revitalize..all my senses!

My home is my world; it is there that I find you
I look around and smile at the familiar walls and floor,
The bed that we shared, the books we have read..
The pens and notepads spread,
Your smiling pictures on shelves and by the door..
And I embrace them all!

I read the poems I have written for you
Everything that my broken heart can pour,
My eyes well up with tears..
As flashes of bitter-sweet memories come to the fore.
I smile through my tears and thank God..
That I couldn't ask for anything more!

I've asked your permission that I leave for a while
And travel to distant shores,
Then I realized that you were by my side..
Looking through my eyes with rose-colored glasses
At everything I could ever wished for!

Thank you, my beloved
For helping me live once more,
For lifting up my weary soul
I promise you that as long as I can..
I will look at the world for the both of us.
I will sing with the birds,
I will laugh with the flowers,
I will pray to the stars for the both of us..
Yes, my beloved, I'm home.

For my dearest husband, Jack
from your loving wife..Sonia

Im home, my Beloved (for my husband after my US Sojourn)
by: Sonia

Dear Karen,
Thank you for the very beautiful comments on my latest poem. I have learned that wherever we go, whatever we do, we bring our beloved with us. The scenes, the sounds and the scents from distant shores only punctuate the longing and the emptiness of the heart. The partner of 42/2 years has been gone for almost four years. I miss his sparkling laughter, his wit, and his charm; how we were forever holding hands, even in death. I continue to write poems for him.

Ours was not a perfect marriage but it was beautiful. I am sure yours was just as beautiful! Bless you...God has given us that rare and distinct privilege of having been their wives..sincerely yours....sonia

How very beautiful

Dear Sonia,

I have tears in my eyes after reading your poem. I lost my beloved husband of 27 years on October 31 from Stage 4 lung cancer, by the time he was diagnosed on August 10, it had already spread to his hip, pelvis and lower lumbar.

I miss him terribly, your poem made me think of him and the wonderful life we had together. Like you, I will take him wherever I go, our love goes on forever.

It's very difficult some days, the words in your poem helped, at least for the moment.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts.
