Always smiling Dolores

Dolores Olmos - many words to describe her: fun, loving, always laughing, organized, fabulous sister, wonderful wife, life of the party. She passed away on August 19, 2009 in her home in New Mexico. She is survived by her husband, Lou Olmos and her sisters, Rose, Mary and Valerie and her one brother Henry.

A memorial service will follow soon and details will be posted here.

My Friend Dolores

Valerie,
We have never met, but I feel like I know you because of all the amazing stories Dolores told about you two and your travels. I worked with Dolores for many years at ValueRx and then Express Scripts. We traveled the country over visiting clients, sharing meals and always a hug good-bye when we parted ways to go back to our respective homes in NM and MN.

I left work about 8 years ago to stay home with my family but never lost touch with D. In fact, my sister-in-law moved to NM about the same time that I decided to leave work which was a terrific blessing because it kept me in touch with Dolores.

We shared many, many laughs which was probably what I will miss most about her. She had a gift for making any situation a little lighter. I had the great fortune of visiting with D when she was in MN in this July and was able to give her hug, which will have to last me the rest of my lifetime.

I'm so blessed that she found the time in her schedule to visit our home, see the kids, share another meal and of course a few giggles before I took her to the airport to catch her flight to NM. Because this was how I always said good-bye to D, I will think of her passing as a break until we meet again.

I am so blessed to have known your sister. Thank you for sharing her with me. God Bless -

I am so sad to hear that someone who brought such joy to me left so quietly and quickly. I do believe that God's favored ones get to skip the suffering part, but I would have loved to have seen her smile light up a room once more. I know that she loved her siblings more than life itself, so for you I am sorry. For the Immmaculate Heart class of '66, we lost one of the best. She always had the ability to make you feel as though you were the most important person in the world. She, without a doubt, showed us the face of God.

I thought Dolores was one of those people that left a sparkle in you heart forever! Although I did not know her as well as Melanie did and her ton of friends did, I knew she was a Gift to this planet. That smile and laughter and her bright mind and gift of articulation were so amazing. Lucky students who had her for a teacher!

Condolences to her husband, Lou, as well as all of her siblings. Life will never be the same for those who knew and loved her! I bet Dolores would want you to enJOY life and find laughter again and again in her honor.

After my friend Jane (Harvey) showed me the Immaculate Heart newletter the other day with Dolores' name listed, I googled her and found this site. I well remember Dolores all through high school. Her contagious laughter drew folks to her...what a special gal with a HUGE heart and infectious happy personality! I bet she was a very special teacher!

I ran into her over the years a couple of times ...I believe once at an Angel game (?) or maybe a football game somewhere (??) years ago, and then of course at IH reunions and she had the same magnetic charm she had when we were teenagers.

Sincere sympathy to you, Lou, and to Dolores' sisters and brother. Such a sad loss of a wonderful person.

Dolores Left us with an Incredible Gift of Memories!

It's hard to imagine that Dolores left us without a formal goodbye...but Dolores left us with wonderful memories that will last all through our lives!

Looking back, it's amazing how those four short years we taught together at LeGore School in El Monte, California, left such a strong and positive influence in my life! Dolores had a zest and enthusiasm for life that showed in her art work, her music, her photography, and her friendship! Very special memories include the Cinco de Mayo Festival, painting the murals at LeGore School, trips to Disneyland with school students and joining Dolores in Mexico City.

Dolores left the world a better place because her happiness and laugh were contagious. She brightened so many lives, and we know that love never dies... it lives in a realm all of its own. Lou, Valerie, Mary, Rose, and Henry, may your memories comfort you, and may you feel the love of your family and friends at this time in your life.

Dolores and I first met as teachers at Le Gore School in El Monte, Ca. She was a 5th grade teacher and I was a third grade teacher. Once she became a second grade teacher next to my classroom, that was the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

Dolores liked to travel and send everyone postcards and to keep a travel journal. We traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, throughout the United States, Caribbean cruises and once she got married to Europe. We had many wonderful adventures and funny memories. Her husband Lou was our protector and decision maker because Dee and I were terrible about making decisions when we were on vacation.

The first thing you heard when Dolores was around was her laugh. She gave everyone the best welcome whenever you saw her. She loved bringing people together to enjoy good food, good company, and good wine.

I will miss her.
