Laura Poggioli The Girl with the Heart of Gold- 49 years old

My best friend for almost 10 years, succumbed to Leukemia yesterday - she was only 49 yrs old. She took me away to Vegas for my 40th birthday. I was taking her on a cruise for her 50th. She didn't make it. I'm mad I'm sad I wanna hit someone... She was the best dog sitter, my poor Jetta is gonna miss her. She wasn't married, she had no children.. but she meant so much to me. You never had to ask her to do something, she always volunteered. I will miss her "hellloooo" every time we spoke on the phone.

I am so touched to see these other comments on this page. Laura was so larger than life- now that's she's not with us anymore, I feel so 'un-alive'. I don't know how to contact the neighbor who asked for her mom's address. sorry.

I'll miss her as well.

Joann,
Laura and I were great friends back in the day. She was my date for the Senior Prom. We lost touch over the years, but I was fortunate to speak with her during our 30th reunion. She showed up for a short time because she was ill. Laura definitely made her mark on the World. I for one, will always remember her.

I'm so sorry to hear of Laura's passing. I was her neighbor for six years. She mentioned you a million times. She made blankets for my boys that they still cherish. She would do anything for anyone. I lost touch with her shortly after we moved away, but think of her all the time. I'm sorry you've lost your friend. Laura was one of the best anyone could ask for. She fought long and hard, and though I'm heartbroken to hear such sad news, I'm happy she's finally at peace.

Friends are Forever

My husband passed away four months ago. Without the support of my two best friends I don't know what I would've done. I couldn't really cry around my children because I didn't want to upset them. I've always been a strong but with my husband's death I completely went to pieces. They have both been my friends since high school days (trust me, it was many years ago). They have been so aware of my needs and such wonderful towers of strength. They understand me when some days I don't understand myself. They both still have their husbands so I'm writing a daily journal to remind myself what I'm going through. Maybe I can be there for them when the time comes.
Cherish the friendship you had. Friends are definitely a precious gift. We don't get to choose our families but our spouses and friends are chosen by us. She'll be your friend forever in your heart.
