Little Saint

Blessed child
Innocent and pure
I loved you so, I still do
Little brother
Tiny warrior
I’m sorry you could not win
But it gives me peace to know
That our goodbye was not the end
Although we are far apart
A part of you I kept with me
Forever in my heart
You taught me what faith means
With your sweet ways
You fought with quiet strength
A kindred smile always on your face
You lived with steadfast faith
Always knowing
Where your help came from
You were a borrowed angel
One who could not stay
I cried the day that Jesus called your name
“Well done my child” the Lord did say
As He pulled you from the wreckage of your body
Heaven needed you back again
Part of me screams it isn’t fair
For one like you to endure so much pain
But you never knew the meaning of the word
At least… it seemed that way
Although much is lost
And I mourn those years that were erased
The man you would have grown up to be
I love the boy I knew, I can’t say this to your face
If you hear me, if you listen
One day I will join you
Where we all want most to be
And I’ll wrap you in my arms
And never have to watch you leave
I miss you my friend
