Mauser, our great li'l man

by Marilyn R.
(Lancaster,CA)

Our baby Mauser, was a 7 month old Dachshund, a gift from our daughter. We fell in love with him the moment we saw him. He was timid and aloof at the beginning but followed our older dog everywhere, copied his every activity. He barked, learned to climb the stairs, gave lots of kisses, cuddled a lot, fell asleep on the couch with us every night. He even learned to sniff and play with other dogs at the dog park. When he turned 8 1/2 mos. old. my husband mowed our front lawn with the two dogs with him. Gate on side yard was left opened. He swore it was less than 5 minutes when he noticed the little one was missing. He went to the backyard and found our new neighbor's Pitbull in our backyard. Our little man was mauled to death.
It hurts so much to know he died a vicious death. We called the animal control.Someone finally came to "investigate" after 27 hours. He deemed the irresponsible dog owners promised to secure their dog, not jump off their fence. They still have their live dog in their property to this day. Ours is gone and we miss him terribly. There's no justice for our li'l man. I cry every night, missing him. All dog owners should be responsible owners, not let their dogs loose and attack other small animals. It's been 2 weeks and our heart aches so bad.
