Mother, May I be Grateful?

by Christi
(Austin, TX)

How grateful am I to see the gleam
To relish the love and possibilities

And just when it seems too much to take
I'm overcome with for which I dream

To live in a world where my children can dance
speak, dream, laugh and prance

To sing the last song within the dance
A warm embrace, a mark, a chance

I'm thankful for the role of mom
For laying the foundation from dusk 'til dawn

I'm honored and challenged and resentful at times
For future generations, I hear the battle cry.
