My best friend, my Mom, is gone

by Dan
(Louisiana)

My 82 year old Mom died on June 30, 2012. A broken pelvis led to pneumonia and then death.

I was Mom's caretaker for the last 15 years and she lived with me for about twice that long. She went through so much the last 15 years ... An almost fatal blood disorder, abdominal surgery, kidney failure followed by 8 years of dialysis, chronic back pain. Mom had ample reason to complain and get depressed but rarely did. She even drove herself to dialysis right up until the end. Mom was a real trooper! Her poor, frail body just couldn't recover from a broken pelvis. She is no longer in pain.

Mom always said she wanted me to get on with life once she's gone. I know I'm cable of it, but right now at the three week point it seems impossible. My sisters have returned to their homes. I come home to an empty house each evening after work. I try to stay out of the house and occupied as much as I can.

Mom, I love you and miss you!

I UNDERSTAND
by: ELLA

I understand your pain. My mother died two moths ago this coming August 8,2012. I wa per primary care tker for 17 years. She died with family present.....I still have difficulty going into her room knowing she is not there. The days are so longer and the night are just unbearable. I do not know what I'm going to do nowing that she is gone. My life has no purpose, meaning; the emptiness, loniness is more than I can bear. I really do not know what to tell you...but I will remember you in my prayers.

a daughter like you is a wonderful thing

You are an amazing and loving daugher!! Your mom was very blessed to have you and for you to have her. Even though I have not suffered a loss of someone really really close to me, I would think that is must get more difficult before it get's better. Lots of sadness, change, adjustment and tears. I did have a wonderful uncle pass away recently at 68yrs old a few months ago and I know my aunt and cousins are very, very sad...possibly even more so now than at first. Someone you spent so much time with is now gone...someone you loved so much. Really, I can't imagine it fully and I dread the day I lose one of my parents. I think time, a supportive network of family and friends is what get's you thru. Crying too... memories over time become more beautiful and less painful. I wish you peace and strength...take comfort knowing how well you loved your mom and how much she loved you. She is with you always....
