My Dad...

by Alison
(United Kingdom)

......passed away in hospital on 2nd April 2011 aged 85. Despite his advanced age, it was still a shock because he was due to come home. We'd had a stairlift installed for him and he was going to have an oxygen supply at home, but the nurses went into his room at 5am and he was ok, then when they went back at 6am he had passed away in his sleep.

He was a lovely man and as a dad I couldn't have wished for better. I was very lucky to have him in my life for so long (I'm 51) but he has left a huge gap and I miss him so much.

I am trying to take some comfort that he didn't have a long drawn out or painful illness, that he was in his own home until a week before he passed away, and that despite having mild dementia he never became very confused and always knew who we were.
