My Dear Son Robert

Robert and Me
Were those last hours so painful
That you had to have it end?
What did you think of that day?
You were left alone to do what you did.
We never had a note or a call to say goodbye.
Now thoughts of you come and with them the tears.
Of memories of you growing up through the years.
Your first love that ended and made you hurt so.
You were only a teen and no one would know.
Your first day at school when you cried,"Ma,where are you"?
And I stood near the stairs because I just knew
You'd soon run down them fighting a tear
And I took you back home for another year.
There's so much more to say, my dear
But I hurt way too much to tell it all here.
The pain of losing you never ends for me.
But I'll join you one day oh, how happy I'll be
To again hold you close and say, "Here I am Robert
Were you looking for me?".
