My Father...A Soldier For Christ Even In Death

by Collette
(New Mexico)

My father, Raphael Pacheco, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 5th, 2012 at 10:20 p.m. A month before he passed he had been diagnosed with three major blockages in his heart. The doctors offered triple bypass surgery but, after carefully weighing the odds, we as a family decided against it. My father was 70 years old when he passed. He had been through so much in his life. Back in the mid '90s, he had been diagnosed with colon cancer. In 2008, he had been diagnosed with a form of dementia. And in 2010, he had to have the lower half of his left leg amputated because of complications from diabetes. Double pneumonia and congestive heart failure combined caused his death. He endured a lot of suffering...but even through the Daddy had peace. My father always found comfort in Jesus. He always said that the Lord is faithful. Christ delivered him out of alcoholism many years ago. I thank God that my Daddy was going on walks and getting outside more after his heart attack instead of spending his last weeks hooked up to all kinds of tubes and breathing machines. Now, I know in my heart of hearts, he is truly so much better. My father impacted many lives...many he probably never knew about. He was involved with the prison ministry and had a passion for people to come to know Christ as he had. The night before he passed away, he was brought in to the hospital by ambulance. And I will never forget something he said as he struggled for each breath..."If I go down, I'm going down with the name of Jesus on my lips." I will see you again Daddy...because of Christ...I will see you again.
