My Hero and Best Friend

by Brendan
(Baltimore MD)

Well my grandad and I were really close. He picked me up from school on Monday's Wednesday's and fridays. He used to be a brick layer ironically with my girlfriends's grandfather. He told me stories about when he was a kid and the war he was in. He never expected anything from anybody except a thank you. He got me into the music of Louis Prima and when I was little we always loved the part in the jungle book with the orangatang who was Louis Prima. So my story gets sad here on the last week of January this year he went to the hospital for a muscle cramp but he got out ok. That Monday he picked me up from school and dropped me off. About 10 minutes after he dropped me off he and my grandmother got into a car crash and were both out in the hospital. My grandmother got out okay and fine. Everyday I checked on him telling him he was gonna be ok and dating it was gonna be just like good old times as soon as he got out. Well the weekend came I was happy cause it was my girlfriends birthday and I was hanging out with friends. Out of no where my uncle picks me up at my house and drops my friends off at their homes. He didn't know what was happening. Than my mother called me and told me he had passed away. When I got to the hospital I just stared at him and told him how much I love him and how he is my hero and best friend. When he was put in the grave I played the Louis Prima song from the jungle book for him. I blame myself a lot for his death because the promise I made to him felt like a lie. All I know is one day I'll see him again and I'm a lucky person for being able to have him in my life.
