My mom fell, hit her head, then died when the medics got her to the ER

by Annette

My mom had just had her gall bladder out one week before. She had done beautifully and was healing perfectly. My sister and I checked on her every day and spent the afternoons with her. She did not want to stay with one of us. She was an extremely healthy 82 year old and worked 2 days a week at our local hospital. I had just left her and 2 hours layer got the call that she had pushed her medic alert button. They got to her and found her unresponsive and rushed her to the hospital where she went into cardiac arrest and died. She had a deep dent on the back of her head where she had tripped or something in the kitchen and must have hit the counter top. We got there just as they were pronouncing her dead. We are devastated and shocked. We had her cremated and had a beautiful memorial service for her but we are still in shock. How do we get through this?

My mum fell

Dear Annette,

I am very sorry for your loss. it is tough losing some one you love so sudden. You did your best for her and that was all you could do. Remember your mum could have died in her sleep so you can never tell when or how it is going to happen. Both my parents died suddenly and I acknowledge how difficult it is.
Take time to grieve your loss and be gentle with yourself.

I am sorry to read about your mother. I lost my 81 year old father to cardiac arrest in January. He was also very youthful, active, and seemingly healthy. One day he was fine, and the next afternoon, he was gone. I can only offer you my heartfelt condolences and sympathy. If it is any consolation, I understand exactly how you feel. I have taken one step at a time, and while incredibly difficult, I have managed to make it through the year. I am heartbroken, devastated, angry, sad, shocked and lonely. Even though I have a family of my own, and my mother, I was closest to my father, and this loss is profound. I wish you comfort and peace as you try to heal. Barb
