My Sister is Gone! She was only 46!

by Gloria

I will never forget that September day when she called me to tell me she had just been told she had cancer. My sister Gini was one year and four days younger than me, and way too young to have cancer take her from us. Gini and I grew up in a family gof 7 children.. We shared our room, clothes and birthdays. Gini was a single mother and worked hard to give her girls a life filled with love, family and God. Her girls were her whole life!

Gini had Cholangiocarcinoma, which is a rare liver cancer, most likely to be diagnosed in the last stages, which makes it incurable with a bad prognosis.

I flew back home to be with my sister for her Oncology appointment, just to hear the Doctor tell us it was Stage 4 and that she had 4-6 months to live. It was unbearable to hear those words. She wanted to go to a Cancer Hospital out of town, so I took her. I was the one person she wanted with her in the hospital. Her and I spent her last week together, before she passed away, 27 days after she was diagnosed.

I am having such a hard time accepting all of this, and I want to remember all of our wonderful memories, but that last week with her watching her suffer and in so much pain is hard to let go of, then watching her take her last breath and her daughters in so much pain has really taken a toll on me. I have many sleepless nights.

Gini died on 10/3/2011
