My son gave his life to have a relationship with his father.
by Vickie Morgan
I left my children's father in 1989 when my son was only 10 years old. Although we all lived together my husband was always too busy for any of our children. More or less, his first born son, so after 14 years of living in pure hell, constant drug use in our home, cheating, and verbal abuse, I left with my children. As a result, their father did not see his children and was also in-and-out of prison. When my son was 15 years old his father learned that he was selling marijuana and gave him a baggie and told him to bring it back full. That was the beginning of a relationship my oldest son yearned for with his father. At the age of 17 my son was selling cocaine and was paying his father with crack in exchange the rental of his basement. At the age of 32 on January 22, 2012 my son died from an overdose of heroin. My son's death was the result of longing for a relationship, with his father, at any cost which he paid for with his life. His father is still alive and I wish it was him instead of my son. I have had custody of my grandson (my son's only child) since 2005 who has also longed for a relationship with his father that will never happen.
