One Last Gift From Him

by Hope

Thats my bubba only 23

One day I was having a terrible day, to make things worse my mom came to my school and they called me to the office. At first I thought I was in a lot of trouble. My mom had tears running down her face and said, "your brother's really sicks, we gotta go now!"I was in shock, I started to cry even though I didn't know the case. But, she did come get me from school, so it had to be serious. As we walked out the door she told me that he had contracted spinal Meningitis. I had absolutely no clue what that was at the time. Apparently it was severe, so she got on a plane to fly out to Massachusetts that day so she could be by his side. My step dad and grandparents drove, (we were gonna bring him home). So me and my sisters stayed home, and I had one guy by my side the whole time. My mom's best friend came to Snyder, Texas to make sure we were okay. She dropped the news to me and my sisters that he passed away. This killed me. Enough said. Jonathon Devitt was my best friend in the world. Best brother anyone could EVER had. Because of his death 3 people are now living due to his organ donating. That makes me smile. I still get to hear his voice because he was in plays in Mass. He was so passionate about acting. Best brother in the world. I know he isn't gone because I feel his presence. I still miss him and would give anything in the world to see his handsome face one more time. If you want to give the gift of life to someone someday sign up to be an organ donor. It's a very big decision but at least you know you will be living through someone. :)
When we buried him we put him in the usual casual clothes he would wear, nothing fancy. We put cigarettes and whiskey and knitting needles in there. We figured if he has to go in a box, we better give him something to do.

One last gift

Hope,

I feel sad for you just looking at that beautiful face. I am sorry for your loss and at such a young age. God never tells us why he takes our loved ones at will. We are here because he wants us here..... I always think be wants us to learn something about ourselves or our paths in life. Whatever....

Your brother is here with you in spirit because you feel his presence. Pray for him and know he is watching over you. You don't mention when but I can tell you that it takes time to grieve. Keep faith, write as often as you need and know you are never alone. Everyday someone writes in on this blog with sadness in their heart. We are here and know your pain. I pray for peace and comfort for all as we travel this road of grief.
