Pain of losing my dad

by Joanne

I lost my dad in October 2012 to a heart attack. Some days are better than others ... other days the pain of losing him is unbearable. We lost him two days after his 65th birthday. He was walking home from the pub when it happened ... five minutes from home! That's what hurts me the most that he was outside in the cold on his own. I picture him frightened and in pain. I am struggling to come to terms with it ... I always say "since I lost dad" ... can't bring myself to say the "d" word. I idolised my dad ... he was the perfect dad in my eyes. I have no regrets about how I treated him because I told him I loved him every time I saw him (which was a lot as he only lived 5mins from my house). I'm glad I've got my mum but would give anything to have a hug from dad sometimes x

Dear Joanne,

I am sorry to read about your father. My father died suddenly too, he suffered cardiac arrest and was gone instantly. It has been a little over a year now, and I really miss him more and more. I guess the reality of it all is just sinking in. Like you, he lived about 5 minutes away from me, and I saw him almost every single day. We had a wonderful relationship and he knew how much he meant to me. I hope you find some comfort here-you are not alone. Wishing you peace in the coming days, Barb
