Since You Were Gone
by Sonia Sicat
(Philippines)
My Love. . .
Since you were gone, not a day passes
that I don't think of you,
I see you in the distant sunset
And in the fresh, morning dew
I hear your voice in an old
Song's strain
that we both love to sing:
The lyrics, they keep repeating
A heart-broken refrain
I watch you work in
the garden
Tending gently to your plants,
You say they are your second passion
And I, your first and only
Now know where I stand
I listen to you whisper
thanking God we have reached this far
For all the good things He has
given
And the strength to reach
Our star
I sense you in the echo
Of the things you left behind
I feel you most in your warm embrace
As time stood still. .
To forever be mine..
(A poem dedicated to my beloved husband Jack... from his wife, Sonia)
