So painful but there is help...

by Julie
(Sydney)

My baby

My baby

I am a Veterinary Nurse & have been Nursing for 14years. Three weeks ago I lost my 12year old Border Collie - Jaydan & although I have seen hundreds of animals die & have helped many client's pain when they have lost their pet, the death of one of my own nearly tore me apart.

Jayde was the only family I have here in Australia. He was 6 weeks old when I got him - a tiny ball of fluff. Over the years he was my right hand man, my very best friend & saw me through many hard & painful events in my life. For several years he was a pet therapy dog & we visited the elderly at a retirement village. He fore filled my life over & above what I would ask for in a dog.

I have never felt or been in as much pain as what I was when I lost Jayde. But I sought help & I found a huge amount of comfort taking up grief counselling. David Foote is a Veterinarian who is also a grief councilor. By talking through my pain with a professional in his field, I am slowly healing. I can't recommend it enough for everyone that has lost a pet & struggling in the first few weeks.

I know what you are going through it is a pain you can't imagine will happen when your pet dies and I dont think you can ever fully prepare yourself. I am a midwife/nurse and our dog bailey died having a c section.

I have thought about going to see someone for grief councelling as still 4 months later I cry. I am going through the grieveing process but always seem to revert back to the start; i think I need help. I am glad it helped you; fingers crossed for me.

FAMILY

Julie, condolences on the loss of beautiful Jayde. Animals play such a huge part in our lives and become part of the family. Your grief is felt by many, keep those happy memories alive.
