TAKE ME AWAY

by LESLEY COUZENS
(Pietermaritzburg, South Africa)

TAKE ME AWAY

Take me away from this
cruel world,
I am unhappy not being
able to cope.

I want to be certain
that you can hear me.
I want to be certain
that you can watch over me.

Take me away to where
you are.
Even just if it’s for
a little while.

I want to see the place
where you live.
I need to know all
is alright.

Take me away, let me
speak with you a while.
Show me the smile,
that I miss all the time.

Let me breathe in your scent,
so that I know that
you’re here.

Take me away,
on the wings of an eagle.
To make sure that
you have fully healed.

Bring me the joy that
I had in my heart.
I need it now,
for the others left
behind.

Take me away to float on
the clouds.
Have a little fun with you,
in your territory.

Let me dream that
I’m with you as if you never left.
Let me feel the warmth
of your special breath.

Take me away,
until you come back.
I don’t want to carry on
drowning in sorrow and grief.
