The Other Half Of My Heart

by Joe
(Calif.)

Here We Are

Here We Are

At the age of 51 and 51, we were married. Things were great ! I suppose it is not common to think about bad things ahead, and we didn't. Only the good times behind us and the good times still to come. We had some really great times for awhile. But things seem to happen, that you just don't expect.

After 5 1/2 years, my wife began to feel a little poorly, and off to the doctor's office, often, the trips began. In April of 06, she was diagnosed with mesothelioma, lung cancer. She didn't work in places where asbestos was present. She was a typist! Where did this come from ? Answer, just one of the unlucky folks that took a breath at the wrong time, in the wrong place.

Things went down hill slowly from there, and on Easter Sunday, April 12th, 2009, it ended. She just got a bad break, I guess. 8 years 8 months, we made it. It was great for most of it. She always told everybody, I was the other half of her heart. That was nice. She was that kind of person.

On the 6 month anniversary of her death, Oct. 12th, our dog (Mr. Lucky) died. A Chihuahua. He was just a little boy. He was happy and a good boy. He just got a bad break, too.

I sometimes wonder what my karma is, or am I just getting a bad break? Writing about it here helps. Some day, all this will be a chapter in my life. However, right now, it sure is not a pleasant time.
