The Sadness Behind the Eyes

The Sadness Behind the Eyes
of those who've loved and lost
is now inside me too.
I see it in those I meet,
and wonder how long they've had it.

I smile to hide the sadness,
but inside the turmoil rolls.

Grief, it's a tricky one.
A song, a word, a memory and all
of a sudden the tears flow.
I try to choke them back, but then
I cannot breathe.

Eventually, the pain subsides and
I make myself smile.
A smile can hide the sadness
but it's still behind the eyes.

Its a great poem! Its such a difficult balance to strike between having your feelings and carrying on with your life.

This poem is so true. I so know how you are feeling. This just pretty much sums up how I try and hide my sadness. My friends and family have told me that I should have moved on from my losses, I really haven't moved on-completely. Alot of days I just put on that fake smile and hide all my sadness on the inside. Thank you for sharing your poem!! I really enjoyed reading it.
