The Sweet Ashes That You Left (Sweet Memories of You)
by Sonia Sicat
(Philippines)
You stand to gaze at the
birds fly by
And roost upon our tree.
You say to me: "It's going to rain
and soon will be dark.
Those birds are telling me."
Your faithful dog, pet Scrappy
really yearns
That you are by his side,
He waits to meet you at
The doorway
wags and walks joyfully with
you inside.
Your plants are lush
and robust
From your gentle
Loving care,
You check them from
too much sun and rain
To leave them wilt
You cannot bear.
Your time and space for
God's creation
Continue to amuse me no end,
With that same love and compassion
You have touched many souls
in pain.
You gifted me with two fine
sons
They are spitting-images
of you,
I see you daily in them
Constant reminders of your
love so true.
You taught me most of
life's lessons
To carry me through life,
It was an honor, a joy
And a privilege
To have been your
Chosen wife.
So blessed am I that...
From moment to moment,
day after day,
I still live to love and to cherish
Those precious times we shared.
And when God beckons me
To join you
And leave this earthly place,
With hands clasped in prayer
I open them...
To hold your dearest face.
"God knows the depth of
My grief
You know the breadth
Of my love."
For my husband, Jack
From your loving wife.
