TO VERA

TO VERA

I looked for you today –
I looked for you among the flowers that you planted
in our garden.
I looked for you in the places that we used to go to,
Among the people that we knew.
I looked for you today-
I'll look again tomorrow.

I reached for you today-
I reached out to touch the softness of your hair
and to feel the warmth of your cheek .
I reached for your hand
To place it in mine.
I reached for you today-
I'll reach again tomorrow.

I listened for you today-
I listened for you in the wind,
I listened for you in the trickling of the water and the coo-ing of a dove
and in the the laughter of a child
and in the music that we loved.
I listened for you today-
I'll listen again tomorrow.

I cried for you today-
I cried because you left me
to go upon your journey.
I cried, because only in my memory can I
See you-
Touch you-
Hear you-

This memory will not diminish
or fade.
Nor will the love that you left me.
Or the love that you took with you.

I cried for you today-

I'll cry again tomorrow.

All My Love

David

I love your poem so much. It reminds me of the poem I wrote called I ONLY CRY A LITTLE. posted here. They have the same feeling. They should be there but when we look, listen or feel they aren't. Though it's been 16 months since my husband died, every once in awhile, for a split second, I expect to turn around and see him.We both know the answer to that one. He's not there.I pray each night for GOD to give me strength to go on.I have his picture on my phone and computer and I talk to him often. I miss him so much GOD BLESS you and give you strength love and prayers going to you
