Two losses in a short period

by Lesley

In 2005, we lost my niece to cancer. She was born in 1997 with Cerebral Palsy. It was a very hard journey for my family and I. Then in 2007, we lost my oldest brother. He had done to much damage to himself over the years, and it took it's toll. I don't really know what type of blog this is, but I want to know if it is normal to still feel so different and out of place even though it's been 5 years since all the trauma.

Two losses in a short period

Lesley I am sorry for the losses in your life. YES! It is normal to feel grief after some years. Grief has no time limit. Grief affects different people at different times, in different ways, and in different time spans. Some people think we should recover in days or weeks. This is not normal. Don't listen to such people. they don't know what they are talking about. It also depends on the type of relationship one has with the person and for how long. This too affects the grief. For sudden deaths and Suicide one should see a grief counsellor, also for the death of a child as these are traumatic types of death. Due to you still being affected after 5 years you should consider seeing a grief counsellor who will be able to help you move forward from these losses. Sometimes people just get stuck in grief and can't move forward. It doesn't mean there is something wrong with them. Especially with more than one loss and so close together that one doesn't even get the chance to grieve one loss before another one occurrs. Your Blog is O.K. this site is for anyone who wants to talk about their feelings when they lose someone or a pet, or a job, marriage, relationship, or any loss that affects their life.
