My best friend died yesterday.He was gentle and sweet and understanding to a fault.Nothing I did was ever bad enough to incur his wrath because he had none.Oh,he would snap at his food if it was too hot or at me if I was too slow with a piece of cheese, but it was all for show.Every night he would take his place on the couch and tend to his grooming, each paw getting its needed attention.And every day just before dinner he would ask for his walk.Actually he would demand his walk,rain or shine,wind or snow.Especially snow.Except last Friday.Instead of his excited ''let's go now!'' he slumped to the floor.I knew it was bad.Saturday he spent the entire day virtually motionless on the floor.When he did stand it was a struggle.This wasn't a tummy ache or a 24 hour bug.We took him to the emergency room that evening.The doctors did the best they could-blood tests,i.v.'s,antibiotics- but it wasn't working.We brought him home on Monday to spend a few more hours with him,hoping and praying for a miracle recovery that never came.My beautiful Keeshond, Wolfgang,died Wednesday morning as I held his paw in my hand.My tears have yet to stop.I am heartbroken.Thank you,Wolfie, for being my friend.
Your sharing about Wolfie brought tears to my eyes, I loved you story, but then I realized that not only is Wolfie special, but for you to have loved him so much, you must be a very special person. Thank you for telling us about your best friend Wolfie. I understand your grief, I lost my best friend Barnie almost thirty years ago, he followed me to my construction and carpentry jobs, and would wait by the last door he saw me. I will never get over the loss of my best friend, and weep whenever I think of him, I have had a lot of dogs, but he was my best friend, like your Wolfie, and reading your message has helped me.
